In case you didn't see it, here is an interesting article from the Free Press passed on by the schools I am working with in Manitoba.

Dr Anna Stokke has been a JUMP Math Champion – also a great supporter of Singapore Math methods and good straight teaching of math

The Kindergarten to Grade 8 Mathematics Curriculum Framework: 2013 Revisions document has been posted at http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/math/framework_k-8_rev2013/index.html.

The excerpt from the release describing the new document is below:

As part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of math education in Manitoba, changes to the Kindergarten to Grade 8 mathematics curriculum have been made to reinforce the importance of conceptual understanding, procedural thinking, and problem solving, and to clarify grade-level expectations. The Kindergarten to Grade 8 Mathematics Curriculum Framework: 2013 Revisions is a document that reflects changes that have been made to the number strand of the 2008 Kindergarten to Grade 8 Mathematics: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes. Manitoba Education has worked with educational partners to develop these changes. This document identifies revised specific student learning outcomes and achievement indicators of the number strand and changes that have been made to the Introduction and References sections. Full implementation will start in the 2013-2014 school year.

Kind Regards

Liz Barrett
