Literacy and numeracy among off-reserve First Nations people and Métis: Do higher skill levels improve labour market outcomes?
This article examines the literacy and numeracy skills of off-reserve First Nations and Métis adults, focusing on the factors and labour market outcomes associated with higher skill levels. In this study, individuals in the higher range for literacy and numeracy are defined as those who scored level 3 or higher (out of 5 levels) in tests administered by the 2012 Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC).

Wanbdi Wakita, our Grandfather and A.C.E. Elder is a recipient of the Order of Manitoba.

He is a kind man, a Dakota spiritual leader, residential school survivor and a veteran of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry peacekeeping mission in Europe. Most recently, he has spent more than 30 years working as an elder in federal, provincial and territorial prisons, and has devoted his life to teaching and healing the relationship between First Nations and non-First Nations people.

We have been honoured to have Wanbdi and his wife Pahan Pte San WIn as our Elders for the last three years.
